Slick Manchester United share the Twitter love

First of all a word on Manchester United’s performance in Germany last night – they were fantastic from start to finish and could easily have won by a larger margin.

They will be more than happy to settle for the 2-0 away win though which virtually guarantees them a place in the Champions League final this year. Schalke 04 went to Inter Milan and won by three clear goals earlier in the competition, but football betting suggests they won’t do it at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has even talked about resting players for the Premier League game with Chelsea which follows the second leg. Imagine that, fielding a weekend side for a Champions League semi-final!

Don’t get me wrong, Ferguson will still put a strong side out, but if he can afford to leave a couple of star names on the bench – that would be a massive bonus for freshness going into the Chelsea game.

The fact is though; they deserve to be coasting after their display last night. They were extremely efficient and proved that perhaps they are peaking form wise at just the right time. Barcelona and Real Madrid would have taken note of United’s display, that’s for sure.

Two men in the United team last night were quick to praise their own team’s performance, via the social networking site Twitter. Both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney are regular tweeters now and here is what they had to say after last night’s 2-0 win in Germany.

Ferdinand (@rioferdy5):

“Great result(shoulda scored a couple more), still got to produce a performance 2nd leg. Great stadium + our fans were loud+clear, thanks!”

“Fabio put in a mature shift too! 2 brothers fighting it out at right back + they love it!”

“giggsy + carrick were pulling strings tonight…love sitting back + watching sometimes!”

Rooney (WazzaRoon08):

“Hi tweeps just left stadium thought we were class today hope u all enjoyed. Thx to everyones good luck messages. Giggs. Wow. He’s unreal”

There were some other footballers Tweeting about the game last night too with Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué messaging Rooney and Ferdinand: “ManU won 2-0 yesterday in Germany! Well done mates!! Hope to see u in the final at Wembley!”

There was little activity from Michael Owen though, normally someone who updates his Twitter page fairly regularly since joining recently. Perhaps this was because he wasn’t involved in the squad and there were no reports on an injury?

Anyway, it is certainly a fascinating insight (some times more than others) and it is worth keeping an eye on. I wonder how many football bets could be placed on Rooney saying something he shouldn’t do on there before long?!

The biggest conclusions from last night though were that Manchester United were excellent, Ryan Giggs is better than ever, Michael Carrick has found his best form, Wayne Rooney is back to his old self and Javier Hernandez is on the right track to becoming an Old Trafford legend.
